What is Bisabolol?
Bisabolol is naturally present in German Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla or Matricaria recutita) and the bark of the Candeia (Vanillosmopsis erythropappa) tree of Brazil. While the use of chamomile goes back thousands of years, bisabolol was only recently isolated from the plant in the twentieth century. Since then, studies have proven it to be a beneficial compound; especially when used in body care products.
- Acts as an anti-irritant, protecting the skin from everyday damage
- Stimulates and promotes the skin’s healing process
- Improves the appearance of damaged skin by moisturizing and helping to restore suppleness
- Prevents signs of aging with antioxidant benefits
- Reduces incidence of UV-induced erythema (sunburn)
- Soothes irritation by acting as an analgesic and relaxant
- Helps fight bad bacteria and even some cancer cells
In addition to these amazing soothing and healing qualities, bisabolol also has a subtle floral scent and is sometimes used as a fragrance in personal care products.
What is Alpha-bisabolol?
Alpha-bisabolol (aka levomenol and bisabolol) has a pleasant floral aroma and can also be found in chamomile flower and candeia tree. This terpene is used primarily in the cosmetics industry, but lately it has caught the attention of researchers since it has showed medical benefits, especially in cannabis.
Alpha-bisabolol has proved to be effective in treating bacterial infections and wounds and is a great antioxidant with anti-irritation and analgesic properties.
